Gross Mendelsohn Volunteers Make Baltimore Community Center Cleaner, Greener

Thirty-three members of Gross, Mendelsohn and Associates’s staff toiled in the 99-degree heat on Wednesday, June 23 to plant trees, install raised garden beds, plant hundreds of perennials, collect trash and spread mulch around the Sandtown / Winchester Community Center. The Maryland-based CPA firm partnered with the Parks & People Foundation on the community service project. Gross Mendelsohn is celebrating its 50th anniversary year in 2010 by taking on several large-scale projects like this one.

Hester is Offered Haven Police Chief Position

WINTER HAVEN – City Manager Dale Smith announced today that a conditional offer of employment has been made to Gary Hester to serve as the City’s next Police Chief. It is anticipated background checks will be completed and Hester will begin work with the City of Winter Haven August, 16, 2010.

Reznick Group Sets Community Service Example

Merlin Entertainments May Have Major New Stakeholder …

Reuters news service is reporting that private equity firm CVC is in talks to purchase a 30 percent stake in Merlin Entertainments (now planning to open LEGOLAND® Florida here in Winter Haven). According to Reuters, “The deal would value Merlin Entertainments at approximately 2.5 billion pounds ($3.71 billion), one of the sources said, with CVC Capital Partners, Blackstone and Kirkbi A/S — the Danish investment company owned by the family behind the Lego brand — owning about 30 percent of the business each.” Kirkbi owns about 36 percent of the business, while Blackstone owns approximately 52 percent

Florida Sports Hall of Fame Opens at Lake Myrtle

The Florida Sports Hall of Fame opened in ribbon cutting ceremonies this morning and now shares quarters with Polk County Tourism and Sports Marketing at their new Lake Myrtle complex. The Hall of Fame houses memorabilia from some of Florida’s most famous sports stars from the past four decades. Upon walking into the museum, visitors are greeted by a dragster, donated by Hall of Fame racer, “Big Daddy” Don Garlits (pictured below) .
