Joe Biden, Here’s Some ACE Advice, The Grand Canyon Looks Smaller On A Postcard!

Vice President Joe Biden said the Obama administration “misread how bad the economy was” but stands by its stimulus package and believes the plan will create more jobs as the pace of its spending picks up. Biden, in an interview airing Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” said the nation’s 9.5 percent unemployment rate is “much too high.” “The figures we worked off of in January were the consensus figures and most of the blue chip indexes out there,” Biden said. “We misread how bad the economy w

Lundgren in Dublin and A Proposal Relating to NAMA

I have written before about the incisive and articulate contributions of Bo Lundgren, the Swedish Finance Minister in charge during their banking crisis of the early 1990s.  Lundgren was in Dublin on Tuesday, giving a talk at the Institute of International and European Affairs and testifying before the Oireachtas Committee on Finance and the Public Service.  A productive guy, he also appeared on Morning Ireland.  Here’s a link to his interview on that show (scroll down to find it) which has lots of interesting material. I will post a link to the transcript of his Oireachtas appearance when it is put up.

Journalism’s access scandal — bigger than WaPo’s pay-to-play “Salons”

Several media town criers were shocked, shocked that The Washington Post planned private dinners at its publisher’s home to bring together journalists, industry leaders, and government officials to talk off-the-record about the pressing issues of the day. From Politico’s reporting on the flyer, advertising the “salons”: “Underwriting Opportunity: An evening with the right people can alter the debate,” says the one-page flier. “Underwrite and participate in this intimate and exclusive W

RBA decision and comments keeps the AUDUSD on the defensive

The RBA kept rates unchanged today and in their comments suggested that the central bank had room to cut rates further if need be. Although, the market is not believing the rate cut comment, the threat of a increase does not seem imminent either.  I suspect the intention of the central bank is to slow the rise of the AUDUSD and keep the economic rebound going. The Trade Balance last week for May widened unexpectedly to A$556 million as exports showed a larger than expected decline.  The fall c

Professional cigar roller is a hot commodity

El Maestro sits hunched at his wooden desk, the soft brown aromatic leaves spread before him. If not for the busy thoroughfare steps away leading to the swanky shops of Bal Harbour, it would be easy to imagine him sitting in a steamy factory in his native Cuba.In fact, Oswaldo Marrero, now called El Maestro by his followers, learned to roll cigars on the factory floor of Cohiba.
