Here’s to a New North Shore Year
Now that the excitement of the holidays is over, we have arguably the two bl eakest months of the year to look forward to. I, like countless others, have been taking stock of the past year and making some resolutions for the new one. Last year, the year of the “Great Recession”, was challenging for many of us. It was a year when I joined the North Shore Business Forum and the Beverly Chamber of Commerce and discovered that we have many talented businesspeople right in our own community. It was a year when I tried not to let the little things bother me too much. Spending all day planting Fall bulbs – only to watch the squirrels dig them up and carry them off the next morning. Seeing all of our big, fat tomatoes succumb to blight. Losing the never-ending battle with collie hair.

Bernanke’s Speech to the AEA
He says , Slide 4 shows that the version of the Taylor rule based on forecast inflation (in green dots) explains both the course of monetary policy earlier in the past decade as well as the decision not to respond aggressively to what did in fact turn out to be a temporary surge in inflation in 2008. This comparison suggests that the Taylor rule using forecast inflation is a more useful benchmark, both as a description of recent FOMC behavior and as a guide to appropriate policy.
